Hauzkhas Village- "Love in the ruins"

Many a love stories have begun with me… many more will come alive..
Your love adds colour to me .. violet, yellow, red and saffire..
Come add music to my life as I give a place for you to hide..
Come.. eat, sing and laugh with me… through you I live my youth & my life

Hello people!!

Well, this post is nothing but my attempt to revive an old blogpost that I wrote some 7-8 years back.

With time, everything changes; so, did Hauzkhas village. What was obscure 8-10 years back is now a bustling Delhi spot with innumerable restaurants and people from all walks of life. What hasn't changed a bit is the positive, infectious vibe of the place.

The place got its share of buzz with the great Bollywood Imtiaz Ali movies like “Rockstar" and "Tamashaa", although Tamashaa came in much later.

Ruins of Hauzkhas is the place where Heer (of Rockstar movie) gets high on desi daaru with Janardan.

This is the place where Tara and Ved bump into each other after their fling in Corsica; you would remember the Hauzkhas social and the beautiful street graffiti clad walls; well, I surely do.

This place is extra special to me, because I had my maternity shoot done here; and I chose this place for the shoot because it has always held a special place in my heart.

When to visit HKV: In winters and monsoon you can visit anytime (day and evening); in summers, however its best to visit during the evenings.

The historical complex opens between 1030 to 7pm and the restaurants are open till late in the night.

Who would you find here: Photography and history enthusiasts; artists, designers, expats and people like us getting their pre-wedding, maternity or portfolio shoot done; this place welcomes all, young and old alike.

What I wrote in 2008 about the place is here

Hauz khas ruins complex is a part of deer park and is surrounded by hauz khas enclave,Greenpark and Safdarjung enclave.

Taking you back in history the place was built in 13th century and was a part of second medieval city of Delhi sultanate. To meet the water requirements Allauddin Khilji excavated the Hauz which later came to be known as “Hauz Khas”, hauz for tank/lake and khas for royal. The complex houses Firoz Shah’s tomb, madrassa and a mosque along with the royal tank. That’s enough of a flash back into the history for more of such drab information you may click here.

The complex is probably one of the most obscure places in Delhi, only famous amongst designers, foreigners and the likes of it for its quaint antique stores, boutiques, and few good restaurants. As for me, this place is perfect to watch the sun slowly hide behind the earth for its slumber.
The dilapidated 13th century structure along with young love budding in its nooks and corners, gang of college students smoking and juxtaposing them the health-conscious breed, jogging by the pond side, vying to reduce that extra inch - makes it a beautiful play of human emotions, priorities, nature and time…

My idea of enjoyment at this place is a cup of tea along with Wai-Wai cup noodles, a great company and some good photography..

Have you been to Hauzkhas Village? Do share your experience with me..

Stay at home mothers Vs Working mothers- Bloggers' marathon entry

Stay at home Vs Working Moms First of all, let me tweak the topic a bit; let me make it Stay at home moms and Working moms; let’s talk about the lives they lead, the challenges they face, the sacrifices they make and the rewards they take; for once let us NOT compare them. Versus often written as vs. is a Latin word meaning 'against' or it may mean to have a comparison or a competition between two teams/parties. Mothers do what they feel is best for their off-springs; whether they stay at home or work outside their homes, I would never wish to question their choices. When I was younger, studying and working, I couldn’t ever imagine myself not working or staying at home, changing diapers, feeding the baby and worrying about the piles of laundry and what to cook next. I could not visualize it because I have been brought up in a family where everyone worked and earned. My father has always insisted that women be financially independent. He has helped distant relative

Prepping, Washing, Storing and Stripping the Cloth Diapers

You have landed on this page, probably because you are keen on starting to cloth diaper your baby or you are already doing it and want to know, how others deal with cloth diapers’ nitty-gritties. We begin with prepping the diapers. Your fluff mail has arrived and you can’t wait to see the little bums dressed bright and beautiful; but  heyy, hold on; you’ve got to wait! It is important to prepare the diapers for use, mainly for two reasons: a.        Hygiene: Just like you wash any other piece of cloth before putting it on to your baby’s sensitive skin, these diapers too need to be pre-washed. b.        Absorbency: The natural fibres (cotton and hemp) have residual oil that restricts the absorbency, hence you need multiple washes before you can use them Now, the question is how do you prep the diapers? Mostly you will find the prepping and washing instructions mentioned on the packaging that the diapers come in. However, the simplest way to prep is giving a wash in dete

Musical Bonding - A Playful and Innovative Music Class for Parent & Child

If you have followed my blog-series on music, you would already know what I am talking about. Musical bonding holds a very special place for us and we have found our emotional connect to it; so, my series wouldn't be complete without a dedicated post on it. To get a better understanding of this parent -child programme for all my readers, I spoke to Aditi Shah, founder of Musical Bonding and here is what she has to say about one of her babies- "MB"!!      How did you come up with a programme that is so unique to Indian market? Musical Bonding did not happen as a planned programme for the Indian market. The music provided by The Music Class allowed us (my husband and me) to have lots of fun with our two kids, singing, dancing and learning. Musical Bonding started as a simple attempt to make some friends in a new country and for the benefit of my own kids.   Why Music, what does music mean to you? I have background in Indian classical music and know t
